1. General terms:
1.1. In accordance with the “Rules for the Carriage of Passengers and Luggage by Road Transport,” approved by Order No. 3-223 of the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania on April 13, 2011, only healthy animals not intended for commercial purposes may be transported by bus or train.
1.2. Each carrier reserves the right to decide whether to transport animals on the routes it operates.
2. Rules for Transporting pats on Intercity Buses:
2.1. It is prohibited to transport pets on intercity buses without a carrier, with the exception of guide dogs accompanied by their owners (Rules for the Carriage of Passengers and Luggage by Road, Article X, Paragraph 70).
2.2. The pet owner or the person traveling with the pet must provide a carrier and a muzzle. They are also responsible for the pet’s hygiene and for any damage or inconvenience caused by the pet to other passengers.
2.3. Transport containers (with a total dimension of up to 120 cm) can be of various types—plastic crates, leather or woven baskets, etc. It is important that the animal be transported safely and not be able to escape. The container must be:
- closed;
- must have ventilation openings.
2.4. Pets are transported free of charge on intercity buses if they do not occupy a separate seat. If an additional seat is reserved for a pet, a 50%* surcharge applies to the regular ticket price.
2.5. A guide dog may travel free of charge and does not need to occupy a separate seat. A blind person is entitled to travel with a guide dog only if they have the following documents:
- a document certifying the accreditation of the service dog;
- documents certifying the dog’s health status and vaccination records;
- pet passport.
3. Rules for transporting pets on international buses:
3.1. Pets may be transported on international buses only if the carrier operating that specific route offers this service, with the exception of service dogs.
3.2. The pet owner or the person traveling with the pet must provide a suitable carrier and, if applicable, a muzzle. They are also responsible for the pet’s hygiene and for any damage or inconvenience caused by the pet to other passengers.
3.3. Transport containers (with a total dimension of up to 120 cm) can be of various types—plastic crates, bags, etc. It is important that the animal is transported safely and cannot escape. The container must be
- closed;
- to breathe through the nostrils.
4. Final Provisions:
4.1. The carrier reserves the right to refuse to board a passenger with an pets if any of the requirements set forth in these rules are not met.
